Abidal: “I’ve learned a lot of things during the past few days”

Eric Abidal’s recent altercation with Lionel Messi caused a crisis in Barcelona, ??but the Catalan club’s sporting director says he has learned from the situation and now knows that the team’s problems should not be made public.

The speculation that Lionel Messi might leave Barcelona at the end of this season began following a public altercation between the Argentine and Eric Abidal. Abidali had said that the players did not work well enough as Ernesto Valverde was the coach and this led to the dismissal of the coach.

Abidal’s statement disliked Messi, who responded on Instagram saying that executives should take responsibility for their own actions and that Abidal should have mentioned names rather than staining the name of all players.

Abidal’s interview with Mundo Deportivo and Messi’s reaction had fueled speculation that Messi would leave Barcelona without a cent this summer, as a clause in his 2020 contract allows the Argentine to leave every summer without a wish of the club.

All of this tense situation has led sports director Eric Abidal to learn a great lesson and not make the problems inside the team public.

“If I have learned any lesson from this situation, then that lesson is that internal problems should be resolved within the club rather than through the media,” Abidal said, during the presentation of Martin Braithwaite as a Barcelona player.

“From this moment, we’ll see what happens.”
