Andy Murray ready to go to the next level after impressive Matteo Berrettini win.
Andy Murray is through to the last 16 of the China Open after beating world No 13 Matteo Berrettini.
Andy Murray is confident he is progressing in the right direction after his best win since his comeback.
Murray spent a lengthy time on the sideline due to a hip injury though has now returned to competitive tennis.
He featured at the Zhuhai Open last week, where he made it through to the second round before being beaten by Alex de Minaur,
But Murray’s toughest test since his return came against Matteo Berrettini at the China Open.But Murray edged the Italian in two tie-break sets, winning 7-6 7-6.
And the Brit is hoping it can kickstart a run, though admits he’s unsure if his body can handle more matches.
“I didn’t really feel like I was playing at a great level [against Gasquet in Cincinnati],” he said after beating Berrettini.“Whereas even last week (in Zhuhai), although I lost in the second round [to Australia’s Alex De Minaur], I felt like I was playing tour-level tennis.
“I think things are going in the right direction.
“Last week was a big step for me. Now I just need to try and get the matches, get them consistently, so that I’m used to playing three, four matches in a week.
“Right now, at this level, I don’t know if I’m ready to do that or not.
