Cavani’s transfer to Atletico fails

Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani has now decided to stay at Paris Saint-Germain until the end of this season, after failing to negotiate with Atletico Madrid.

Edinson Cavani had been demanding a move to Atletico Madrid this month, but negotiations between the player, his club and the Spanish giants failed just hours before the January deadline expired.

The January deadline closes on Friday at 24:00 and the prestigious French magazine L’Equipe claims Cavani will remain in Paris Saint-Germain this month and until the end of the season.

Chelsea and Manchester United had also been interested in the striker. Even the Londoners had offered to take Cavani on loan as he liked coach Frank Lampard.

Atletico Madrid believed he had won the race for Cavani, however the Spanish daily AS claims that the player’s agent’s demands forced the La Liga club to withdraw from the negotiations.

Transfer to Atletico now looks unlikely in the January transfer window, as Yannick Carrasco is on his way back to his former club.

Cavani’s contract with PSG expires at the end of June this year, so he can now start negotiating with clubs to reach a deal to go to them as a free transfer in the summer.
