Details ff Messi contract desire and FC Barcelona future revealed

Lionel Messi wants a new contract every year in Barcelona, ??but does not want to sign more than for the next two seasons, though the offer of an indefinite contract will bring him economic benefits. He also wants to have the option to cancel the contract himself every June 30th.

In November last year, Barcelona President Josep Bartholomew Maria announced that he would like to offer the 32-year-old an “indefinite” contract, which would allow the Argentine to play at Camp Nou until end of his career, Forbes writes.

Only a short time later, the club’s sporting director, Eric Abidal, backed the president’s proposal, adding that the two sides were in talks to end speculation about Messi’s future under a new contract.

However, Mundo Deportivo reported that Barcelona and Messi’s father and agent were not negotiating, though both sides repeatedly mentioned the future in the interview. The media also reported that the club had no idea when negotiations with the player would begin.

Meanwhile, after Messi won the Ballon d’Or for the sixth time in his career, he spoke of the problem himself: “People in the club know me. They know that there is no problem beyond what is stated in the contract. What I feel about this club goes beyond any signature or role. So we have no problem.”

Much has happened since then, such as the dismissal of Ernesto Valverde and the appointment of Quique Setienin, and Mundo Deportivo writes today that Messi – who is free to leave at the end of this season, despite having a year and a half to go of his contract.

Messi is said to be able to benefit financially from an “indefinite” contract but he will agree to extend the contract every year for two consecutive seasons, as long as he has the option of leaving without the club’s consent on 30 June each year.
