Di Maria: “Mbappe needs to understand he isn’t the only one who wants to play”
PSG striker Angel Di Maria says Kylian Mbappe needs to think more of his teammates after the French star’s reaction when he was replaced during Saturday’s Ligue 1 win over Montpellier by coach Thomas Tuchel.
The Frenchman was very angry when he was replaced by Mauro Icardi in the 68th minute of the match during a 5-0 victory at Parc des Princes. He then got involved in a heated discussion with coach Thomas Tuchel as he was leaving the field.
Tuchel has sought to silence speculation following the incident, insisting Mbappe, who is wanted by Real Madrid, is not angry with the club and will not use the incident to try to force the departure of the reigning champion of France.
Di Maria, who played for the full 90 minutes of the match, says he understands Mbappe wants to play as much as possible.
However, it has also prompted him to think of players on the bench who want to play just as well.
“It is too hard. Nobody wants to get out of the game, everybody wants to play, that’s normal. “Kylian wanted to score, but the coach decided he should get out of the game.”
“There are other guys on the bench who want to get into the game too and have the required ability. Mbappe must understand this.”
