Dortmund boss: We do not need to sell players
Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has said the German club will not sell any players at a discounted price in the summer.
Dortmund will face Manchester City tonight in the second quarterfinal match in the Champions League, as the loser of the first match with a result of 2: 1 last week at the Etihad.
As it ranks fifth when there are still six games left until the end, Dortmund is not sure about participating in the main European competition for clubs next season.
But if rival clubs think it would help them buy Dortmund stars like Erling Braut Haaland and Jadon Sancho, Watzke says they are wrong.
“When COVID-19 hit, we had no debt. Because of this, we are comfortable. We do not need to sell any players. This is important,” Watzke told the BBC.
“The richest clubs in the world should know that when they want a Dortmund player they have two options. The first is, I tell them you are unlikely. Second, I will tell you ‘this is the price’. Then they should know that this is the price and there is no other price. We are clear and honest.” he added.
