Former Spanish referee known: Benzema’s goal irregular
Karim Benzema’s goal in Real Madrid’s 1: 1 draw against Chelsea in the first semi-final of the Champions League was irregular and as a result had to be canceled, according to former well-known Spanish referee Juan Andujar Oliver.
The reference expert in Spain said that Zinedine Zidane’s team was lucky that the referee of the match, Danny Makkelie, did not notice an unauthorized interference during the goal action.
Andujar Oliver, now a referral expert in the Spanish daily MARCA, estimates that Casemiro committed a foul on Cesar Azpilicuetas during the goal action.
“Casemiro committed a foul on Azpilicueta before Eder Militao followed the ball with his head to Benzema, who scored the goal,” said Juan Andujar Oliver.
VAR did not have much time to control the goal, but it seemed that the control was for a possible offside position, not for a foul.
Prior to the match, the Spanish media put pressure on referee McKelley, casting doubt that he would help Chelsea because of UEFA’s attitude towards Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who was the originator of the European Super League.
