Guardiola for the Dortmund star: He’s too good for a 17 year old
Pep Guardiola reached the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time as manager of Manchester City, but still he found time to elevate the new star of Borussia Dortmund, Jude Bellingham.
City were on the verge of elimination from European competition at the expense of away goals when the 17-year-old put Dortmund ahead in the 15th minute, before Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden secured the Premier League leader a 2-1 victory and move on to the next stage with a score of 4: 2 after two matches.
But the former Birmingham City midfielder became the youngest English player to score in the Champions League and the second youngest player in the history of this competition, after former Barcelona star Bojan Krkic.
Speaking after the match, Guardiola had only good words for the English talent.
The Spanish coach cannot believe that Bellingham is only 17 years old, after his appearances in two games against City.
“I can not believe it, maybe he is a liar. He is incredibly good for a 17-year-old. He is a fantastic player,” said for Bellingham.
“It was a moment when he did not accept the ball from the center-backs, the way he shouts and asks for the ball means a lot for a 17-year-old,” he added.
