Hummels says Dortmund should wake up: We are very comfortable in the field

Mats Hummels believes his team-mates at Borussia Dortmund are sometimes quieter than they should be on the playing field and that they need to “wake up” in order to play well.

Dortmund are currently in third place in La Liga table, five points behind leader Borussia Monchengladbach, after struggling to maintain good form this season.

A performance of two victories in eight league games during the fall, including a 3:3 home draw against the last ranked club in the Poaderborn league, have put coach Lucien Favre under pressure.

However, this pressure has been eased by successive victories against Hertha Berlin and Fortuna Dusseldorf. But Hummels believes there is still room for improvement.

“We just have to look at our performances and notice that they have been very different this season. But nothing is lost yet. When we find the shape, we can go quickly to where we want,” Hummels said.

“Part of us sometimes needs to wake up during matches. The 4-0 win over Leverkusen in September seems convincing, for in fact we had big problems in the first 20 minutes.

“It’s a problem in the squad that sometimes we are very quiet and that’s why it’s important for the leaders to lead the squad.”
