Iker Casillas, the AFE candidate for the presidency of the Spanish Federation
Spanish media have reported in recent weeks that Iker Casillas may compete against Luis Rubiales for the post of president of the Spanish Football Federation.
The legendary goalkeeper Casillas had been captain of the Spanish national team in two European Championships in 2008 and 2012, as well as in the 2020 World Cup.
The Spanish daily ran a poll asking “Would Casillas be a good president of the Spanish Federation?” 93 percent of those who voted believe he would be eligible for the post.
Even in another poll where fans were asked whether they would vote for Casillas or Rubiales, 94 percent chose Casillas.
The only problem may be Casillas’ past with Real Madrid, as rival clubs may insist he will not be able to do the job in a neutral way, without being influenced by Los Blancos.
Casillas doesn’t just have fan support. The president of the Spanish Football Association, David Aganzo, would be a wonderful president for the Federation.
