Inter beat Bologna and increase their lead over Milan and Juventus at the top of Serie A

Inter have taken a big step towards their first Serie A title in 11 years after beating Bologna 1-0, on a day when their title rivals Milan and Juventus failed to win.

Romelu Lukaku scored the only goal and the important triumph for Inter in Renato Dall’Ara on Saturday night.

Antonio Conte’s team visited Bologna, aware that its rivals Milan and Juventus had lost points by equalizing with Sampdoria and Torino respectively, earlier in the day.

This was an additional motivation for the Nerazzurri to win in Bologna and this is exactly what they achieved, with great effort.

Inter now have 68 points in first place after 28 games, eight more than Milan in second place, which has one more game played and 12 points more than Juventus in third place.

Bologna started the match well and tried to break Inter, but a quick counterattack by Inter was concretized with a goal by Lukaku in the 32nd minute.

The Belgian striker scored from the goal line after the second attempt, after the first header was blocked by the local goalkeeper.

From that moment on, Conte’s team – which achieved its ninth straight win in the league – moved back and was happy to play counterattacks.

Bologna kept the ball more in the second half, but failed to break the Inter defense although there were a few chances.

Bologna remains in 11th place with 34 points and faces Roma next week.

Inter will host Sassuolo on Wednesday night at the Giuseppe Meazza, in a remaining match.
