Klopp admits: We got what we deserved

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Liverpool deserved the 3-1 defeat against Real Madrid in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday, which significantly dampened the Reds’ hopes of reaching the semi-finals.

Vinicius Junior with two goals and Marco Asensio with one secured Madrid an easy victory at Alfredo Di Stefano, but Mohamed Salah’s goal in the second half keeps Liverpool still in the game.

The Reds will pressure the Spanish giants at Anfield next week for the return match, where they will try to achieve another difficult comeback, but this time without the help of the fans.

Klopp, speaking after the match, said his main concern was the poor play by his team.

“First of all, I think we did not deserve the victory tonight, because we did not play well enough and this is my first concern.” said Klopp.

“We did not play well in the first half, especially. We conceded the first goal and then served the second goal to Madrid (after the mistake of Trent Alexander-Arnold). In the second half we played better and scored the goal, which is the only positive thing of the evening”, he added.
