Klopp confirms: Liverpool will not transfer defenders in January

Jurgen Klopp has denied claims he could be tempted to transfer another defender to Liverpool during the January transfer window, as the German coach believes his squad is well-equipped in that squad.

Liverpool, like their rivals in the Premier League title race, have been injured by some player injuries this season. Joel Matip suffered a severe injury, while Dejan Lovren was forced to quit in a 3-0 win over Bournemouth.

However, the Croatian is included in Klopp’s Champions League clash with Red Bull Salzburg and he will be ready to join if Klopp needs him.

With that in mind, Klopp has made it clear that Liverpool see no need to make any further investments for the defense when the January deadline opens.

“How can you miss quarterbacks when you have four quarterbacks, like Fabinho? Only Fabinho is injured, Matip is injured and Dejan Lovren had a problem.”

“We will not transfer another quarterback because of injuries – the world outside of us thinks we are lacking and need someone, but then we would have six quarterbacks and that would not make sense.”

“You need quality in the squad. You can’t buy someone just to buy someone. I’m someone, I’m tall, I’m not fast, but at least I look like a quarterback.”

“But I’m totally worried about the injuries, but Lovren is not injured. He had nicks and it was time to get him out of the game, but all is well.”
