Koeman: Barcelona believed in a comeback against Sevilla
Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has praised his team for the mentality displayed in the extraordinary 3-0 return triumph against Sevilla in the King’s Cup semi-final, saying that the Catalans never gave up this race.
Barcelona had lost the first game 2: 0 on the trip and needed another miracle to secure the final.
Ousmane Dembele put Barca ahead at the start of the match, before Gerard Pique sent the game into extra time with a header in the final moments, allowing Martin Braithwaite to score the qualifying goal in the final.
Koeman believes that his Barca managed to overturn Sevilla thanks to the strong mentality.
“We have always believed. We never gave up the Cup. It was a matter of mentality.” Koeman said.
“I, as a coach, can not ask my team more than what I saw tonight. We fought until overtime. I am happy with the work of the team tonight.”
He added: “We deserved to go to the final. I think we were better in both games. We were the best team.”
