Liverpool destroy Arsenal to get closer with two points from the top four in the Premier League
Liverpool defeated Arsenal 3-0 in a derby match between teams fighting for the top four in the Premier League, and approached Chelsea by just two points.
Diogo Jota with two goals and Mohamed Salah with one in the second half at the Emirates Stadium sank Arsenal and maybe even his hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season.
After more than an hour of goalless play and despite Liverpool’s great dominance, Portuguese striker Jota broke the ice when he scored with a header in the 64th minute, after a cross by Trent Alexandre-Arnold.
Salah doubled the lead just four minutes later, when he scored an individual goal passing the ball between German goalkeeper Leno.
Jota sealed the victory of the reds with an impressive shot in the 82nd minute, scoring the second personal goal in this meeting.
Jurgen Klopp Liverpool’s side now collect 49 points after 30 games, just two behind fourth-place Chelsea.
Arsenal remain in ninth place with 42 points after 20 games, seven points away from the European zone.
