Macedonia celebrates historic victory against Germany

Northern Macedonia shocked Germany last night by defeating them 2: 1 in a qualifying match for the World Cup in Duisburg, thanks to a late goal by Eljif Elmas.

This was the biggest victory in the history of Macedonia.

Germany dominated the match, holding the ball 70% of the time, but it was the Macedonians who took the lead when 37-year-old Goran Pandev scored in extra time in the first half.

The locals equalized in the 63rd minute, when Ilkay Gundogan scored from the penalty spot, after Leroy Sane was stopped with a foul in the area.

Napoli star Elmas scored the winning goal for Macedonia, served by his teammate, Arijan Ademi.

“These guys made Northern Macedonia proud against the winners of four World Cup titles and three European Championships. “We have never beaten a team with so many trophies,” said Northern Macedonia coach Igor Angelovski.

Macedonian players celebrated like crazy in the locker room after the historic triumph in Germany.
