Man United coach: We want to reach Liverpool level

Manchester United are not at the level Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had hoped to see after a year in office, but the Norwegian coach is eager to help his squad reach Premier League leader and rival Liverpool.

Solskjaer took over the United squad exactly a year ago – initially as a temporary coach, before signing a permanent contract later.

United are eighth in the table, seven points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, and less than 24 points behind current leader and rival Liverpool.

Solskjaer says his first 12 months at United have not met his expectations.

“We knew we would have ups and downs this season and use this season to find the team and the squad for the next season,” Solskjaer said.

“But hopefully we will speed up this process by producing good results. I expect to have more continuity, definitely gain more experience and learn from mistakes. At the moment we are far behind the level I hoped we would be,” he added.

“Liverpool have had a couple of years to reach this level, so we have to keep growing because we want to reach that level,” Solskjaer said.
