Manchester United cause Mourinho his first loss as Tottenham coach
Manchester United have been keen to make the return to Old Trafford of former coach Jose Mourinho as bitter as they beat their Tottenham 2:1 team, causing their first defeat to the Portuguese since taking over for Spurs last month.
Marcus Rashford excelled in scoring two goals at Old Trafford on Wednesday, in Mourinho’s return to the pitch just a year after being dismissed by the Red Devils.
This is the first loss for the Portuguese coach as Tottenham coach in four games since being appointed in November.
Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s squad returned to league victory after two consecutive draws, surpassing Tottenham in the standings and now only eight points behind the top four.
Rashford took United ahead just six minutes into the game, beating Gazzanigan in the first half with a powerful shot from outside the area.
The English striker was unstoppable in the first half causing much trouble for Mourinho’s side, but Gazzaniga denied the goal, once with the help of the crossbar, with some fantastic reception.
About five minutes into the final, however, Dele Alli with a magic moment overcame De Gean to equalize the score at 1:1.
United continued to be more dangerous ahead and Rashford, who was on his night, drew a penalty, which scored what was the goal of the triumph in the 49th minute.
