Messi agrees to stay at Barcelona, but has three requests to extend his contract
Lionel Messi has entered the last year of his contract with Barcelona and in the summer can leave the Camp Nou as a free agent.
But with the arrival of Joan Laporta at the helm of the club as president things have changed for the better and Messi is considering staying at the club.
The 33-year-old seems to have decided to extend his contract for another three years, but that there are three requirements that must be met by the club to do so.
The first request is to strengthen the team for the new season.
Messi has asked for important signatures from the club in order to build a compact team in the Champions League as well.
Talented defender Eric Garcia in a free transfer would meet those criteria, according to the report, as would the arrival of Erling Haaland. Messi believes that a “crazy” signing like that of Haaland or Lautaro Martinez is essential if the club is to dominate Europe again.
The Barcelona captain has the second request to the club to continue to trust the youngsters, as he has established an extraordinary relationship with players like Pedri, Ansu Fati or Ilaix Moriba and wants the club to continue to trust the youngsters from La Masia.
Meanwhile his third request is to have a direct line of communication with President Joan Laporta and Technical Secretary Ramon Planes. Messi already enjoys an open relationship with Ronald Koeman and wants this to extend to the club bosses.
Barcelona is ready to meet these requirements and the formalization of Messi’s stay at the Camp Nou seems to be a matter of days.
