Messi: Shame that Mane came fourth in the Ballon d’Or votes
The Argentine star thinks the Liverpool striker deserved more in the ranking for the prestigious award.
Lionel Messi says it is a shame that Sadio Mane finished fourth in the Ballon d’Or, won by the Argentine star himself.
The Liverpool striker had to enjoy fourth place behind Messi, Virgil van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Mane had a fantastic season with Liverpool, with which he won the Champions League.
Messi, meanwhile, appears to be a huge admirer of the Senegalese striker.
“It’s a shame how Mane finished fourth. However, I think there were great players in the race this year. That is why it was difficult to select a particular player. However, I chose Manen because he is the player I like. Mane had an extraordinary year and that’s why I voted for him,” Messi told Canal + Sport Africa.
Mane has scored 13 goals for Liverpool this season.
He and his team-mates are heading safely towards the Premier League title.
