The Portugal coach shows whether Ronaldo will continue to be the team captain
Portugal coach Fernando Santos has sided with Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Juventus striker was denied the goal in Portugal’s 2-2 draw against Serbia on Saturday night, although the ball had clearly crossed the line.
He was angry and threw the captain’s ribbon on the ground, but also received criticism from his compatriot, former footballer Fernando Meira.
However, Portugal coach Fernando Santos said Ronaldo would remain captain.
“It was just a moment of disappointment.” he said. Cristiano will remain captain. He is an example to all. If he had offended the coach or his teammates, we would have thought so, but none of that happened. He always wanted to win, and was very irritated. He gives everything to his national team.” said Santos.
Portugal plays tomorrow the third qualifying match for the World Cup against Luxembourg.
