Thomas Tuchel sets the record for the best start as a coach in the history of Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel has set a record for the longest unbeaten start by a Chelsea coach, as he reached 13 games in a row without a loss following Wednesday night’s win over Atletico Madrid.

The Blues won the return match on Wednesday against Atletico Madrid, with a score of 2-0 or 3-0 in total from both matches, securing the passage to the quarterfinals.

Hakim Ziyech and Emerson scored at Stamford Bridge as Tuchel continued his impressive start as coach.

Tuchel records

Chelsea were struggling in January when the club sacked Frank Lampard after a season and a half at the helm of the club.

Tuchel was hired after being released by PSG last month after having achieved success with the Parisians, as well as Mainz and Borussia Dortmund earlier in Germany.

The 47-year-old has transformed Chelsea in his two months at the helm of the team, winning nine and drawing four of his first 13 games.

This process has eclipsed former Chelsea record holder Luiz Felipe Scolari, who spent 12 unbeaten games in 2008 at Stamford Bridge.

The defense has been crucial for Chelsea, who have yet to concede a goal in six home games under Tuchel in all competitions and have kept the gate untouched 11 times in 13 games under the German.

What awaits Chelsea next?

Chelsea will face Sheffield United on Sunday in the FA Cup quarter-finals, before facing West Brom after the international break.

They will reveal their opponent for the quarterfinals of the Champions League on Friday when UEFA holds the draw.
