Zidane quashes Bale rumours amid Tottenham return talk
Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has sought to end speculation over Gareth Bale’s transfer to Tottenham, saying he is still counting on the Welshman and is not considering selling him.
British media reported today that Tottenham bosses are very optimistic that they have found a good enough offer to return Real striker Gareth Bale to London again today.
Details of the deal were said to be incomplete, especially for the salary of Gareth Bale, who now earns around £ 500,000 a week at the Santiago Bernabeu. But The Times reports that Tottenham’s hierarchy believes the deal will be reached today.
Tottenham boss Daniel Levy traveled to Madrid to negotiate with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez in an attempt to secure the services of the 30-year-old, who left White Hart Lane in Madrid in 2013 for £ 85m. The pound has since been a world record.
However, the Welshman is still part of Tottenham’s squad and has made a total of 12 La Liga appearances this season. Bale’s frequent absence in Real Madrid’s early formations has made Tottenham interested in making it back to the Premier League.
Despite this, Zidane has said Real Madrid is not even considering Bale’s departure, saying he still counts on the Welsh player.
“Gareth is here with us and I’m counting on him. I’m not even considering allowing Bale to leave,” Zidane said.
Coach Jose Mourinho is also looking for further reinforcements for the attacking squad, despite the transfer of Steven Bergwijn and Gedson Fernandes, as Harry Kane will be missing for several weeks due to a muscle injury.
The London club will not have much time to reach a deal with the player and Real Madrid as the January deadline ends at midnight today.
