Atalanta continues to write the story, going through 1/8 of the Champions League final

Atalanta have written the history of the club, qualifying among the top 16 teams in the Champions League for the first time in history, after defeating Shakhtar Donetsk in their last Group C match.

Atalanta – which secured Champions League participation for the first time in the club’s 112-year history this season, finishing third in Serie A last season – defeated Shakhtar 3-0 in Kharkiv on Wednesday to continue the race.

The transfer of the Italian club to the 1/8 of the final in the most prestigious European club competition from last position in the last lap, also contributed to Manchester City who beat Dinamo Zagreb 4:1.

Atalanta, Shakhtar and Dinamo were all in qualifying, but only the Italian club managed to qualify.

Timothy Castagne, Mario Pasalic and Robin Gosens scored the three goals of historic triumph for Atalanta in the last half hour of the meeting.

Atalanta qualify as second in the group with 7 seven points from six games, just one more than Shakhtari.

The Ukrainian club will play in the Europa League after finishing third.

Meanwhile, in the next game in this group, Manchester City convincingly beat Dynamo Zagreb 4:1, honoring Atalanta.

Gabriel Jesus scored a hat trick, while the other goal was scored by Phil Foden in Zagreb.

City had previously qualified even winning the group as a whole.

Dinamo is eliminated from European competition as the last in the group.
