CAS confirms Man City appeal against UEFA’s Champions League ban

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed that Manchester City has appealed UEFA’s decision to sentence him to two years’ suspension from European competitions – the Champions League and the European League.

UEFA have convicted Manchester City of violating Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules and failure to co-operate in the investigation, suspending the club for two years from European competitions and fining it 30 million euros.

Manchester City responded quickly by declaring the club innocent and promising to prove that UEFA made a mistake by appealing that decision to CAS.

The CAS has now confirmed that Manchester City has formally appealed the UEFA decision, in a statement issued on Wednesday.

“The Sports Arbitration Court has registered an appeal by Manchester City to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA),” the statement said.

“The appeal is directed against the decision of the UEFA Financial Controlling Body Investigation Chamber on 14 February 2020, in which Manchester City was said to have violated UEFA rules on financial honesty and club licensing and was suspended from UEFA competitions for the next two seasons for which the club would qualify and was ordered to pay a fine of € 30 million.

“It is not possible to know now when the final word on the matter will be said.”

Manchester City will hope the whole process is completed as soon as possible, as UEFA’s sentencing has raised doubts about the future of some of the stars at the club.
