“Chelsea are in the semi-finals for a reason” – Zidane pleased with the draw
Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance in the first semi-final match against Chelsea, although they drew 1: 1 at home.
Real conceded a goal early thanks to a goal from Christian Pulisic, but Karim Benzema equalized shortly before the end of the first half with a spectacular shot, in what turned out to be Real’s only shot in the gate.
Chelsea had much better scoring opportunities but had to come to terms with a draw, leaving everything open to be decided on the return leg at Stamford Bridge a week later.
Zidane admitted after the match that his team suffered in the first half in particular.
“It was very difficult for us in the first half, but in the second half we controlled the game more,” said Zidane.
“They are very fast, they have good players and they started the game very well. In the second half we had more control. We are still in the game and are happy with the overall layout.”
