Conte takes responsibility after the draw: It wasn’t football we wanted to play, Slavia dominated us
Antonio Conte claimed responsibility for Inter’s disappointing 1-1 draw in the Champions League with Slavia Prague.
The Nerazzurri got a point thanks to Nicolo Barella’s accurate shot after Peter Olayinka had given Slavia the deserved lead in Meazza.
Considering Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund are in the group, this was theoretically the easiest match of the tournament for the Contes guys.
“Slavia Prague certainly played in a very European, aggressive and intense way,” Conte initially told Sky Sport Italia.
“We have not done well to find a solution to this. In other games, we were against teams that were waiting and waiting for us, while Slavia attacked us. We fought and to be honest, I’m not happy with the performance. “
“I have to be the first to take responsibility because I apparently didn’t have the effect I wanted in my title choices or in explaining the kind of match we were going through.”
“We could have done a lot better, this is not the kind of football we are training to play. We need to improve in character as well, but when I talk about a growth process, it goes through games like this, because I know what kind of situation this is. “
“Slavia beat us in terms of intensity, determination, pace … We didn’t show any of our football ideas. You seem to think you come here, touch and ducks turn into swans. There is a lot of work to be done and we need to improve, but this was not our football. “
“I’m here to help these greats get better, so the blame is on me.”
“I refuse to talk about individuals because we were all below the level today, starting with me. I’m the first in a bad step. Overall I hate the long ball and do the routine, as it’s not our football, but that’s what we did mainly today. It was not a plan ”, concluded Inter coach.
