De Ligt: Buffon could have been my father

He is playing his second season in Turin, he is only 21 years old, but he is considered an irreplaceable starter at Juventus.

In an interview with “Telegraph”, the young Dutch defender spoke about his choice to join the whites, leaving aside the many offers he had.

“I did the math, like at school, I weighed the pros and cons, in the end I chose Juventus. In every match I have to prove that I am up to the task. If you can defend in Italy, you can do it anywhere. I am where I want to be, where I can learn more. There are experienced players like Chiellini and Bonucci or like Buffon and Ronaldo. I look at what Cristiano does, how he stays in shape. I ask for advice. ”

When talking about Buffon, de Ligt underscores his spirit and strength, his ability not to feel the 43 years he has on his back.

“Buffon could have been my father. It’s a bit hilarious because the way he behaves is not of someone who is twice my age. If he still plays, it is from his strength. He has the head of a 29-year-old.”

Aaron Ramsey is the teammate with whom De Ligt is most closely associated off the field. The two arrived in Turin in the summer of 2019.

“Maybe I helped him more than he helped me. I learned Italian before him. We helped each other.”
