For the first time in 16 years, Ronaldo fails to score in the knockout stage
For the first time in 16 years, Cristiano Ronaldo has failed to score in the knockout stages directly in the Champions League.
The last time Juventus striker Ronaldo did not score at this stage was when he was 20, when his team, Manchester United were eliminated by Milan.
Since then, the 36-year-old had not left any Champions League competition without scoring from the top 16, until Tuesday night when Porto eliminated Juventus.
It was Federico Chiesa who scored Juventus’ goals in both 1/8 finals.
Ronaldo did not obey in these two matches and was even blamed as the main culprit for the goal that eliminated Juventus, as he turned his back on the ball and allowed it to penetrate between his legs before ending up in the net.
Since joining Juventus in 2018, Ronaldo has scored five goals in the knockout stages.
