Frank Lampard admits Olivier Giroud could leave Chelsea in January

Chelsea coach Frank Lampard has admitted that Olivier Giroud could leave the London club during the January transfer window.

Olivier Giroud has made just seven appearances in all competitions for Chelsea this season, while in just two games he has been a fixture for the Blue.

The Frenchman finds himself in the Chelsea squad as a third option after Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuay, with just six months left on his current contract at Stamford Bridge.

The 33-year-old was left on the bench for Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday, but he went out to greet the fans – a move that was considered a farewell.

Lampard is reportedly looking for a new striker in the January transfer window – rumored to be Moussa Dembelen, Jadon Sanchon or Wilfred Zahan – and this increases the likelihood of Giroud’s departure.

“I have no news of Ollie, but I have spoken to him. “If the circumstances are as good as he wants and the offer is good enough for the club, for me and for the team, then the sale can happen.”

“But it can only happen if every problem is resolved. So we have to wait to see if we’ll be there.”
