Klopp confirms, Liverpool will be without Wijnaldum for Club World Cup semi-final

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Georginio Wijnaldum will miss Liverpool’s semifinal against Monterrey in the Club World Cup on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old midfielder was injured during the second half of Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Anfield at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

Wijnaldum was seen touching his leg muscles as he walked out of the playing field to be replaced by Andrew Robertson. However, he was named in Kloppin’s squad for the first match in Qatar.

Since then, Liverpool have learned that the Dutchman’s injury is not very serious and that he will not be missed for long. But Klopp has announced that Wijnaldum will not recover in time for tomorrow’s match against the Mexican club.

“Ginny doesn’t have the injury as serious as we thought at first, so he is here doing the first exercises to heal and then we have to see what we need to do,” Klopp said.

“We will see his recovery process day by day, but he will not be involved in tomorrow’s game.”

Liverpool will open the tournament with a face-off against Monterrey on December 18 in the semi-finals, with either Flamengo as the winner of the Copa Libertadores or Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia in the final.

Official: Napoli dismiss Ancelotti despite qualification

Napoli have sacked Carlo Ancelotti from the post of manager a few hours after leading the club to qualification among the top 16 teams in the Champions League.

“Napoli have decided to remove Carlo Ancelotti from the post of first-team coach,” the club said in a statement.

“The friendly relations, admiration and mutual respect between the club, the club president and Carlo Ancelotti remain intact,” the statement said.

Sky Sport reports that Ancelotti had a brief meeting with Naples President Aurelio De Laurenttis who communicated to him the decision to dismiss him.

After the match against Genk, Ancelotti told a news conference that he did not intend to resign.

Napoli are going through a very poor form in Serie A this season, as they remain in 7th place with only 21 points after 15 games.

IFFHS publishes the list of top scorers in football history – Romario first, Ronaldo third
