Laporta reveals the message he received from Messi after he was elected president of Barcelona

The newly elected president of Barcelona, ??Joan Laporta, has revealed that he has already received a congratulatory message from Lionel Messi and has promised to keep the Argentine at the club.

Laporta was elected president of Barcelona on Sunday, winning 54.28% of the vote. This is Laporta’s second term as president of the Catalan club.

He last served as president in 2010, when Lionel Messi was just 22 years old and was extending his huge influence in the world of football. During his six-year term, Barca won 12 titles.

He managed to win 30,184 votes in total, far behind Font with 16,679 votes and Freixan with 4,769 votes.

Laporta used his past with Messi to convince voters that his close ties to the Argentine could help him prevent the captain from leaving in the summer.

One of the hottest topics during the campaign was the future of Captain Messi, who is free to leave the Camp Nou for free this summer.

Speaking to Catalan Radio on Monday, a day after the election, Laporta said: “I am convinced he wants to stay. And yes, he has already congratulated me on winning the election.”

“How good it was to see Messi voting. This is proof that he loves Barca. He too won yesterday. We will soon talk and decide on his future.” he added.

Messi was not the only Barca player to congratulate Laporta on the presidency, as Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba had already done so.
