Liverpool signing Minamino set for Anfield medical today – date set for Salzburg arrival

Japan’s Takumi Minamino is expected to join Liverpool on 1 January and he could be included in the squad for the derby against Everton, a valuable FA Cup match.

Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Takumi Minamino is expected to undergo medical tests in Liverpool today before completing his £ 7.25m move to the Premier League, reports the Guardian.

Liverpool activated the clause to terminate Minaminos’ contract with Salzburg last week, just days after facing the Austrian side for the second time in the Champions League group stage.

If there is no problem during the medical tests, the 24-year-old is expected to sign his contract with the English club as of Wednesday, and will become a Liverpool player as soon as the January deadline opens on 1 January.

Minamino is believed to be joining Jurgen Klopp’s squad immediately and may be available for the FA Cup third round match against Everton, taking place at Anfield just four days later.

Liverpool rate the deal as very good as the value of the player in the market is three times higher than what they are paying. The club have been overseeing Minamino since 2013, but accelerated negotiations when Manchester United, Monchengladbach and Milan were interested.

Minamino has recorded nine goals and 11 assists so far for Salzburg in a total of 22 matches played. In addition to contributing to the Austrian Bundesliga (five goals, six assists in 14 games) and OFB-Cup (two goals, two assists in two games), Minamino has also helped in the Champions League, with two goals and three assists in five games.
