Manchester United interrupts the 21 wins in a row of Manchester City

Manchester United interrupts the 21 wins in a row of Manchester City, causing its first defeat after 28 games without a loss, after beating it 2: 0 on Sunday in the Premier League.

Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw scored the winning goals for United at the Etihad, losing hope to the city rival to break the record for most wins in a row.

The record for most consecutive victories in European football is held by the Welsh club The New Saints, which in 2016 won 27 consecutive games.

The last defeat of Pep Guardiola’s team came at the end of November 2020, when Tottenham beat them 2: 0 leaving City in 11th position with eight points less than the team of Jose Mourinho, who was the leader of the Premier League in that time.

Since then City have won 21 games in a row in all competitions and were unbeaten in 28 overall.

United’s intention to become the team that stopped City was seen as soon as the referee whistled for the start of the match.

Fernandes put United ahead after just two minutes of play, scoring from the penalty spot which Anthony Martial won after falling in the area after Gabriel Jesus’s intervention.

City controlled the game and created a lot but lacked efficiency in front of the gate.

Shaw doubled the visitors’ lead five minutes into the second half after a fantastic combination with Marcus Rashford.

This loss is not expected to have an impact on Guardiola’s efforts to regain the Premier League trophy at the Etihad, as City continue to lead with 65 points after 25 games.

United follow behind with 11 points less, while Leicester City ranks third with one point less than the red devils. Chelsea closes the top four with 47 points.
