Marchisio reveals that Benzema was close to transferring to Juventus

Claudio Marchisio has revealed that striker Karim Benzema was close to joining Juventus from Real Madrid in 2010.

The former midfielder made the confession during an interview with Cronache di Spogliatoio via live broadcast.

“It is true, Benzema was close to Juventus, the year Ciro Ferrara was coach,” Marchisio initially said.

“He did not do well at Real Madrid and Los Merengues had to choose whether to sell him or Gonzalo Higuain. They ended up keeping Benzema and a few years later Higuain went to Napoli.”

“Karim was really close to joining us in Juve that year, but unfortunately it did not happen. There was definitely an opportunity,” concluded the former Juventus star.

Now Benzema has become a mainstay at Real Madrid, scoring 272 goals in 545 appearances for the club.
