Official: Deschamps extends contract with France

Didier Deschamps has signed a new contract with the France national team, which will keep him in the post of coach until 2022.

Deschamps’ previous contract would expire after the end of the 2020 European Championships, but after succeeding as coach of the national team, he was offered guarantees to continue until the end of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The former Marseille coach, who is one of the few to have won the World Cup as a player and coach, was appointed to the France bench in 2012, replacing Laurent Blanc who disappointed at Euro 2012.

Deschamps has led France to 100 games so far, winning 65 of them.

His biggest success came in 2018, when he led France to winning the World Cup for the second time and for the first time since 1998.
