Official: Joan Laporta is elected president of Barcelona
Joan Laporta has been elected the new president of Barcelona, after a convincing victory in the March 7 presidential election at the Catalan club.
Laporta defeated his two opponents Victor Font and Antoni Freixa, winning 54.28% of the vote Sunday.
He managed to win 30,184 votes in total, far behind Font with 16,679 votes and Freixan with 4,769 votes.
Laporta will be the 41st president in the history of the Barcelona club and this will be his second term as president.
From 2003 to 2010, Laporta was very successful as president, winning many trophies: 4 La Liga titles, 1 King’s Cup, 2 Champions League titles and 1 Club World Cup.
