Real Madrid beat Eibar and is only three points closer to the leader of La Liga

Real Madrid beat Eibar 2: 0, increasing the pressure on La Liga leader Atletico Madrid, after approaching the city rival by only three points.

Marco Asensio and Karim Benzema scored for a tough win for Zinedine Zidane’s team in heavy rainy weather in Madrid on Saturday.

This victory means that Real now rises to second place with 63 points, one more than Barcelona in third place and three less than leader Atletico.

Atletico meet Sevilla tomorrow night, while Barcelona host Real Valladolid on Monday in this week’s matches, which means that the ranking in La Liga may change again.

Real Madrid had complete control of the meeting with Eibar, owning the ball 63%, compared to 35% of visitors.

But Zidane’s team was canceled by VAR two goals, after Benzema and Asensio had scored from offside position.

Asensio, however, made sure to beat the grace of the offside position and put Madrid in the lead in the 41st minute.

In a second half aggravated by heavy rain, Benzema doubled the lead when he scored with a header after a cross by Vinicius Junior in the 73rd minute.

Next week, Real Madrid will face Barcelona at the Camp Nou.
