Van Dijk and Gomez will also be missing at EURO 2020, says Klopp
Center-backs Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez will not be fully rehabilitated to participate in the 2020 European Championship this summer, according to Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp.
The representative of the Netherlands Van Dijk underwent surgery after a serious injury to the knee ligaments in October.
Gomez was injured during a match with his England national team in November and underwent surgery on his left knee.
“Joe is not running, Virgil has already started running but it will be very difficult,” said Klopp.
EURO 2020 will be held from June 11 to July 11, after being postponed for a year due to the pandemic.
Speaking about the possible involvement of Van Dijk and Gomez in this tournament, Klopp: “It is not my decision, but to be honest, as I have been informed, is very unlikely.”
“Not because I do not allow them to go, but because of the extent of their injury. We hope they will be ready to start preparations with us for next season, we have this hope.” he added.
