What happened in Barcelona training when Messi got angry
Rio Ferdinand has told in his autobiography about the time when he had asked the former French striker, Thierry Henry, to choose between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Henry had responded by telling the former Manchester United defender something he had seen in training during his time at Barcelona.
Messi had been fouled and the coach had not given him a free kick in 2009. Messi had remained furious.
“When the ball went to his goalkeeper, Messi ran towards him and asked for the ball. The goalkeeper had followed the ball and Messi had dribbled the whole team in anger and scored a goal. Thierry told me what he had seen that day, he himself had only done in the elementary school yard. ‘I did things like that to young children. But he did against some of the best players in the world: Yaya Toure, Puyol, Iniesta, Xavi, Busquets. And not just once. He did it twice,” Ferdinand said.
The former England star added: “Henry said: ‘Can Ronaldo do this?’ I told him I had never seen him do this. Thierry has played with Zidane and Ronaldinho but they had never done anything like that. He then told me: That was the moment I realized that Messi was different from the others.”
This story makes it clear that Messi is the best player Henry and Ferdinand have seen.
