Willian talks about confronting Barkley about the penalty: I wanted to hit it

Willian has confirmed that he tried to take the penalty before Ross Barkley in Tuesday’s loss to Valencia, but is not happy with his team-mate.

The Blues suffered a 1-0 home defeat to the Spanish squad as they started the Champions League season in the worst possible way.

Barkley was unlucky after equalizing in the 87th minute, but struck a cross over the crossbar.

But there was some controversy before the penalty shootout, with Willian and Jorginho trying to get it in place of Barkley, who had arrived a few minutes earlier in the game.

“I wanted to get it, but he was sure to get it,” Willian told reporters after the match when asked about discussions with Barkley.

“This is football. He lost the penalty but it could be me who loses, either Jorginho or anyone. So that’s football. “

“But when we win, we win together, and when we lose, we lose together,” the Brazilian star concluded.
